Performance-Based Actions is my ongoing investigation into how movement, text and dramaturgy can speak directly to the realities people face. After developing several works largely through self-guided practice, I am now taking time to deepen my understanding of how meaning is shaped in rehearsal — how ideas evolve, how performers are supported, and how structure emerges. This research phase allows me to observe leading practitioners, test new approaches with performers, and refine the tools that will underpin a more confident and sustainable performance practice.
Ways to explore and respond - trying out ideas - images - editing - sound design - music
This page includes selected workshop videos. I have recorded every session and these are a vital part of the construction process of the pieces.
There is approx 180 hours of footage and 58 films that show sequences, routines and ideas, some are shown here. I do not normally release these workshop videos these are for reference only.
These sessions were often attended by John Woolrich and live music on occasions by renowned flute player Paul Cheneour.
WORKSHOPS
All of the sessions are recorded the material is gradually being edited and the process of refining and defining the movements and actions that will form part of the final work is explored in the method.
Music and sounds are sometimes added in the editing process. The workshops are sometimes silent without music sometimes with.
Adding these videos to the site is a temporary situation - I would not normally show the ‘backstage’ work.
